Whether you want to frame an old favorite photo or a newly bought poster, it is important that you invest in a high-quality frame that enhances the beauty of the image. At Posterton, we are experts in frames and hanging solutions, and from experience, we can say that all pictures and posters look better when framed.

In our wide range of photo frames, picture frames, and art frames, you are guaranteed to find a suitable frame for your photo, painting, or poster. Our frames are available in most sizes and come in a variety of beautiful materials and designs.

What size frame should I choose?

When it comes to buying frames, it is crucial to choose the right size frame. We offer picture and art frames in a wide range of sizes and dimensions – all to enhance the experience of your image, painting, or poster.

Choosing a frame that is too large for your picture will look odd unless you plan to use a mat. In such cases, you have a bit more flexibility with the size of the frame.

If you buy a frame that is too small, you will need to trim the picture to fit, which is not something we recommend.

The best approach is to choose a frame that fits perfectly with your poster, painting, or image. Posters are often printed in standard sizes, such as 30 x 40 cm or 50 x 70 cm. If you order a poster from Posterton, you can rest assured that you will find a frame in the right size with us. If it's an old poster or photograph you're framing, simply measure the image with a tape measure or ruler. Our frames are available in sizes from 13 x 18 cm up to 70 x 100 cm. We also have frames in A4 format for framing a nice drawing your child made at preschool.

Before ordering a frame, you also need to decide how wide you want the frame molding to be. Some prefer thick moldings that accentuate the picture. Others prefer a thin and discreet molding that doesn't distract from the motif itself.

Frames in different colors and materials

We offer a wide selection of frames to suit all tastes and style preferences. Here you will find everything from classic metal frames to black and white wooden frames and traditional oak frames. Our metal art and photo frames are available in colors such as gold, silver, copper, and black metallic.

      Wooden Frames

Classic wooden frames are as decorative as they are timeless. Whether you want to frame a photo or a poster, a wooden frame will bring out the best in every picture. Our oak frames are ideal for any type of interior and look particularly good on white walls in rooms with plenty of natural light.

We also offer wooden frames in black and white finishes. A black wooden frame is perfect when you want to draw attention to what you have chosen to hang on the wall. If it's a light motif, it creates a stylish and eye-catching contrast with a black frame. For darker motifs, the black wooden frame serves as a discreet and stylish complement.

White wooden frames are particularly suitable for colorful pictures and paintings displayed against darker walls, wooden panels, or wallpaper. If you have white walls at home, the contours of a white wooden frame can easily blend into all the brightness. But if done right, it can be a stylish touch in your decor.

      Metal Frames

Posterton's metal frames are as beautiful as they are durable. Choose from different sizes of moldings and various colors. Our metal frames are made of aluminum, which provides high durability and low weight.

Gold frames are perfect when you want to add an exclusive touch to your home and work equally well with both dark and light interiors. A gold frame is especially popular for personal photos like wedding photos, pictures of children and grandchildren, but also suits photo art and classic paintings from masters like Rembrandt, Leonardo da Vinci, and Monet.

For those who prefer a more subdued style, our silver frames are a safe choice. At Posterton, you can buy frames in nickel silver, which is an alloy of copper, zinc, and nickel, with a shiny surface. Silver is a so-called cool metal that provides a sophisticated framing for your art.

Copper and brass frames are perfect for homes with darker interiors with teak and mahogany furniture. Copper has a reddish hue that reflects light in a warm and elegant way. Our copper frames are ideal for framing old nautical charts, photos, beautiful woodcuts, and other items that exude tradition, culture, and sophisticated taste.

Finally, we also have photo frames in black metal. These are for those who prefer a shinier finish than a black wooden frame. A black metal frame is an excellent all-round frame that works equally well for photos as for art prints and graphic prints.

Choose a frame that suits the motif

Some claim that framing pictures is a science in itself, but in our opinion, it's difficult to go wrong, especially with our stylish and affordable frames. If you go with your gut feeling, it usually turns out just fine, and if it doesn't, you have a 14-day return policy.

There are many ways to think when choosing a frame. Some like to match the frame color with their overall decor. Others prefer to focus more on the motif itself and choose an accent color from the painting. You can do whatever you want, and it usually turns out great. The only thing that can vary is the feeling that the picture frame enhances.

If you really want to highlight the picture, you can use a matboard. This is a paper frame placed inside the glass, making it more airy between the frame and the picture, which puts more focus on the motif. Another advantage of using a matboard is that the picture doesn't touch the glass directly, preventing it from sticking and getting damaged.

The Difference - Photo Frames, Picture Frames, and Art Frames?

Photo frames and picture frames have in common that they always have a glass pane (usually plexiglass or acrylic glass) to protect the image. Art frames, on the other hand, can consist of a simple or ornate wooden frame around a canvas or panel. However, the term "art frame" is also used for photo and picture frames.

At Posterton, all frames come with acrylic glass, which is impact-resistant and protects your art, photos, and posters from fading or exposure to moisture and stains. The frames are also designed to make it easy for you to open and replace posters or photographs without needing tools like a screwdriver or pliers.

Frames for hanging vertically and horizontally

Pictures can be hung either vertically or horizontally. If they hang crooked, they are hung wrong, and then it's up to you to go there and straighten them. For some motifs, such as some abstract paintings, it can sometimes be difficult to determine which way the painting should hang. In most cases, a simple Google search can give you the answer to how the painting should hang.

All our frames come with fittings that allow them to be hung both vertically and horizontally. That means you can reuse them for all types of pictures and posters. Smart, right?

When it comes to hanging art, you need to ensure that the screw, nail, or bracket can support the weight of the painting. The type of fixture you need depends on the wall's material and the artwork's weight.

Plasterboard walls are the least capable of bearing weight. For these types of walls, it's wisest to use an expanding plug. If it's a smaller frame, a regular screw may suffice. But remember that screws leave ugly holes, so you need to be sure where you want the painting to hang.

If you're hanging your framed poster on a concrete or wooden wall, a regular picture hook usually suffices. This is a type of hook hammered in with a hammer and can support weights up to 3-4 kilograms. At Posterton, we have picture hooks for all types of walls. Our wall brackets for pictures leave minimal holes that usually only need a couple of coats of paint to cover.
