What exactly is boho wall decor?

Boho wall decor is all about creating a cozy, inviting space. The style is named after the bohemian lifestyle that values free expression and creativity. Boho wall decor is therefore characterized by colorful, eclectic details. Patterned fabrics, vintage finds and natural materials are typical elements of this style.

Boho style, also known as hippie style, is accordingly a popular interior design style characterized by the use of bright colors, patterns and natural materials. Boho style is often associated with a carefree, bohemian lifestyle. This decorating style fits especially well in homes with an open floor plan and lots of natural light. The goal when decorating in boho style is to create a relaxed, casual atmosphere. Therefore, the decor is usually very informal. Common elements of boho decor include rugs, tapestries, pillows, throws and lamps made from natural materials such as wood, stone and ceramics. Boho design is often used to create a warm and inviting space that feels like a retreat from the outside world. When it comes to colors, think earth tones and jewel tones for a rich and inviting space.

Is this exactly the style you want to have or do you already have boho decor? If so, wall art with nature motifs in boho style will fit perfectly in your home.

Which Boho type are you?

And more importantly: which poster motifs suit your boho style? To help you find out, we've put together a quick guide to the five different boho types.

1. The hippies

Hippies are all about peace, love and living out their individuality. They are often creative types who decorate their homes in bright colors and eccentric furniture. Accordingly, they are attracted to colorful posters that reflects their free spirit. Our "Tropical" picture wall combines just that.

2. The poets

Poets are romantic souls who appreciate the beauty of life. They often have a soft spot for vintage and like to surround themselves with art and literature. Therefore, a mix of typography posters and our vintage motifs, such as our "Retro Love" picture wall, could be perfect for poet types.

3. The yogis

Yogis are all about balance and well-being. They tend to decorate their homes comfortable and with flowing, light materials. Also, Yogis like to surround themselves with nature. If you're a yogi, you might like the posters on our "Soft Bedroom" picture wall.

4. The vagabonds

Vagabonds are free spirits who live for adventure. They appreciate the nomadic life and the van life and like to go explore the world with only a backpack. Because of their wanderlust, they have the most interesting stories to tell. Then, once they're home, their apartment should reflect just that. As a vagabond, you'll be perfectly equipped with sayings like "everyday is a new adventure," exotic plant imagery and fantastic views like Padar Island in Indonesia! Check out our "Harmonic Ochra" picture wall for inspiration.

5. The moderns

The moderns do have a boho style, but with a cleaner, simpler look. Think neutral, light tones and minimalist decor. This often makes the decor of moderns seem well thought out - there's no crazy pattern and color mix like the hippies have it. A combination of nature motifs and architectural posters, like our "Wild World" picture wall, might suit you best as a modern.

How do you complement your boho style posters?

Here are three tips on how to perfectly set off your boho wall decor with your other decor:

  1. Stick to one color palette. Natural posters are a great way to add a splash of color to your space, but when it comes to boho style, less can be more (depending on your type, of course). For example, opt for muted colors and earthy tones to create a calming atmosphere.
  2.  Incorporate natural materials. Boho style is generally about bringing nature indoors, so you should incorporate some natural elements into your decor. Woven baskets, wood accents and plants are great ways to do this.
  3. Create layers. One of the hallmarks of boho style is a sense of layering. To achieve this look, stand your natural posters up instead of hanging them and let them overlap a bit.
